Replacing Lost Teeth With Crowns And Bridges

Losing a tooth can be embarrassing, as no one enjoys a gap in their smile. In addition, this can also lead to problems for your overall oral health. In order to address minor tooth loss, your Independence, MO, dentist may create and place a custom dental prosthetic known as a dental bridge. In fact, we may be able to do so in just one visit!

Creating a Prosthetic in One Visit

A dental bridge is composed of the pontics, or replacement teeth, with dental crowns attached to either end of these new teeth. The crowns will be placed onto the natural teeth to help address the gaps in your smile and prevent complications related to tooth loss. Typically, this takes several visits to complete. However, we can now use CAD/CAM technology to craft and place a prosthetic in one visit. We start by removing structure from the natural teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. We then take detailed digital impressions and measurements and use this information to create a 3D model of your smile. The dentist then designs the bridge and we upload the relevant information into the onsite milling machine, which creates them from lifelike materials.

Placing The Dental Bridge

After the machine finishes milling the finished product, we will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. Finally, we place the crowns on the prepared teeth with a powerful bonding agent, which secures the new ones firmly in place. They can address between one and three missing teeth in a row, and you leave with a full smile in just one visit! The material we create them from is translucent like tooth enamel, and can be shaded to match the color of surrounding teeth. The prosthetic can also withstand and absorb serious pressures and bite forces.

Caring For Your New Smile

With proper care and attention your new prosthetic could last between 10 and 15 years. You should brush the prosthetic along with the rest of your teeth when you wake up and again before bed. Also, you need to floss around them and clean the space in between the top of the gums and the bottom of the bridge, where food particles could accumulate.
