3 Possible Solutions To Advanced Tooth Loss

Losing several teeth impacts everything from your ability to eat, to how well you can communicate and even your facial structure. In order to replace lost teeth for our patients in Independence, MO, we may suggest dentures. In today’s blog, we’re looking at three different options for addressing tooth loss.

Full Dentures

As the name implies, full dentures address complete tooth loss. We use them to replace every tooth on one or both of your arches. We will take detailed impressions of your smile, which will be used in a dental lab to design and create your new prosthetic. The denture will consist of an acrylic base that will be designed to mimic the appearance of gum tissue. We will have a complete set of teeth created using lifelike and durable materials. The prosthetic itself will of course reflect your unique facial structure. In most cases, these will be held in place with natural suction or possibly the assistance of a special adhesive.

Partial Dentures

For those with multiple missing teeth, but not enough to require a full denture, we may suggest a partial. Again, the prosthetic will have an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of the gums, as well as lifelike teeth. However, there will also be metal clasps that attach to the remaining natural teeth, securing the new ones in place. We can address multiple missing teeth in a row, or even cases where the gaps are spread out across the arch.

Implant Dentures

If you worry about your prosthetic slipping during meals or speech, or simply would like a more secure and long-lasting option, you may consider implant dentures. Instead of relying on metal clasps or natural suction, we place multiple dental implants. We then create a custom-made prosthetic, either a bridge, partial, or full denture, and attach them to the dental implants. In addition to offering greater stability, the dental implants also stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue, preventing the onset of a prematurely aged appearance or further tooth loss. We will need to examine your smile to see if this is the best choice for replacing your lost teeth. If you have any questions about addressing missing teeth, then contact our team today. Let’s enjoy a full and functional smile in 2019!
